MISSION STATEMENT:  Niagara Frontier Search and Rescue Team, Inc. is committed to provide Western New York, and surrounding areas, with an organization of trained volunteers dedicated to search and rescue operations as a public service.

The Niagara Frontier Search and Rescue Team is an all volunteer Wilderness Search and Rescue Team, based to cover the eight counties of Western New York, though the team may be respond to participate in search efforts throughout New York and the Northeast when requested by the NYS Federation of Search and Rescue Teams.

The Niagara Frontier Search and Rescue Team is a 501(c)(3) organization and does not charge for its services, our members donate their time and personal equipment in order to train, respond to actual searches and educate the public on outdoor safety.  NFSAR members utilize the latest technologies available, including electronic navigation mapping software, handheld global positioning systems (GPS), and search and management software.

The Niagara Frontier Search and Rescue Team receives no dedicated funding, instead it relies on donations from individuals, foundations business corporations, fundraising, and grants.  If you would like to make a donation please contact us at info@nfsar.org
 
The team is dedicated to saving lives and educating the public on Wilderness Safety, we thank you for your support.

All members of the Niagara Frontier Search and Rescue Team have sucessfully completed the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) Basic Wildland Search Course. Building on the Basic Wildland Search Course there are regular monthly trainings which included topics such as:  

  • The Incident Command System
  • Backcountry Navigation using a map/compass/GPS
  • Hasty Search Techniques
  • Thorough Search Techniques
  • Personal Survival techniques
  • Mantracking awarness
  • Helicopter operations.

Further, members regularly participate in outdoor Physical Conditioning year round in all conditions. Many members also completed the NYS Rescue Technician - Basic Course and are trained in backcountry low-angle evacuation.
