All members of the Niagara Frontier Search and Rescue Team have sucessfully completed the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) Basic Wildland Search Course.

Building on the Basic Wildland Search Course there are regular monthly trainings which included topics such as:  

  • The Incident Command System
  • Backcountry Navigation using a map/compass/GPS
  • Hasty Search Techniques
  • Thorough Search Techniques
  • Personal Survival techniques
  • Mantracking awarness
  • Helicopter operations.

Members regularly participate in outdoor Physical Conditioning year round in all conditions.

Many members also completed the NYS Rescue Technician - Basic Course and are trained in backcountry low-angle evacuation.
